I was nominated and not appointed by the FA - Afriyie debunks reports

Mr. George Afriyie, former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has debunked reports claiming he was appointed by the current GFA president to serve on the Advisory Board of the Division One League.

In a press release, Mr. Afriyie clarified that the current position was through a nomination by club owners and administrators of Zone Three Division One League Clubs.

“It is true that I have been selected to serve on the Advisory Board but my place on the Advisory Board is not by an invitation/appointment from the GFA, but rather a nomination by club owners and administrators of Zone Three Division One League Clubs. I have therefore decided to set the records straight by presenting you with the facts and to state my position on the matter.”

According to the Planners Athletic owner, it is undoubtedly an honour to be chosen by colleagues to play a critical role that would help shape the future of football in the country.

“I also feel compelled as a club owner to get involved in deciding on matters that affect all of us for I believe that the future of our football ultimately lies in the choices and decisions we make today.

“I decided to accept this nomination because it is an honour and a privilege to be nominated by your peers to represent their interest in matters that affect their very existence,” he said.

GFA as part of setting up the board nominated two persons whilst the clubs in each zone nominated one person. The FA nominated, Tony Aubyn and Mark Addo as its representatives on the Advisory Board.

Afriyie’s passion for football has seen him serving under many football administrations, from club ownership to GFA vice presidency.
