The Ministry of Youth and Sports is holding discussions with the Lands Commission and the Land Valuation Board as to whether or not to return the Race course lands to their owners.
This has become necessary in the wake of mass encroachments o the land by private developers which has raised doubts about the prospects of it being used for the proposed Olympic Complex. The Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, Mr Joe Aggrey disclosed in an interview with peace news on Thursday.
According to Mr Aggrey, the Ministry is yet to take a definite decision, on the proposed Olympic complex, at the Race course, because it has not served the original purpose for which it was acquired by the government about four decades ago.
Mr Aggrey stated that, it was possible the land could be returned to its owners after the discussion because; the owners were not duly compensated, when the land was acquired. He however added that, the Ministry could decide to use the remaining lands for projects it considers beneficial to it.
