Fans join street carnivals to celebrate Stars' victory.

Sekondi, June 22, GNA - Thousands of soccer fans in the twin city of Sekondi-Takoradi in jubilant mood formed long queues in a carnival to cerebrate Black Stars' victory over Team USA in the on-going World Cup tournament in Germany on Thursday.

Within minutes after the match, the fans irrespective of age and sex thronged the streets and accompanied with brass band, sang and danced with joy.

They were joined by private and commercial vehicles, including taxis, which tooted their horns which could be heard many metres away. The over joyous fans clothed in the national colours and Black Stars' paraphernalia, hurriedly composed songs in praise of the government, management, handlers and individual players of the national soccer team, the Black Stars.

Drinking spots were filled to capacity with fans celebrating the Stars' victory with their favourite drinks, while toasting in honour of the team. There were indications that the celebrations would continue deep into the night.

Many fans who spoke to the Ghana News Agency were full of praise for the Black Stars and their handlers and said they had proved that the victory over the Czech in the second match was not a fluke. They said the kind of skills, courage, resilience and soccer artistry displayed by the Black Stars, was and indication that Ghana soccer had come of age.

They said they were convinced that the World soccer championship trophy "is not far from the reach" of Africa.

As early as noon, many people including workers of private and public institutions, traders, artisans and drivers were seen rushing home to watch the match on television sets in the comfort of their homes and by 1300 GMT, the streets were completely deserted.
