Newly-promoted English Premier League side Brighton have submitted an £8million bid for Ghana striker Raphael Dwamena.

The south coast club, after landing Jose Izquierdo and Soufyan Ahannach, are pushing to add another striker with the promising Dwamena firmly in their sights.

But the 21-year-old’s Swiss club FC Zurich have rejected the offer.

“We always have inquiries for him [Raphael Dwamena] on the table.

“And yes, we currently have an offer from England. But we do not want to give him for sporting reasons,” club President Ancillo Canepa said.

The FC Zurich boss added the club is not under any financial challenge that could push them to sell but could only be lured by a much difficult to turn down offer.

“Surely, when a certain scale is reached, one has to make it as a Swiss club some time for economic reasons. So I do not want to exclude a sale. But so far there was no offer in a financial position where I would be nervous.”

And further, “we have no economic need to surrender to Dwamena,” Capena insisted.

Brighton who are keen to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new season, are reportedly formulating a fresh offer for the recently capped Ghana international.

Raphael Dwamena was signed by the Swiss giants in the January transfer window for an estimated 300,000 francs. Now, over six months later, the exciting striker is worth more than 30 times.

In his first half-season spell, he scored 12 times to help Zurich secure promotion to the Swiss topflight. He also scored two goals in the Super League.
