Accra, Aug. 4, GNA – Division One side, FC Nania on Wednesday presented the FA Cup trophy they won to telecommunications outfit, MTN in Accra on Thursday.
Nania masterminded one of the biggest upsets in Ghana football when they beat Kumasi Asante Kotoko 1-0 in extra time to win the knockout competition two weeks ago at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Led by Founder and bankroller, Abedi Pele Ayew and in the company of two of the victorious players, Aziz Abankwah and Musah Yakubu, they presented the giant trophy to MTN, main sponsors of the competition.
Michael Ikpoki, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana congratulated FC Nania on their historic feat, adding that his outfit is proud to be associated with the second-tier Club.
He said their achievement is a demonstration of the company’s ‘Can do’ slogan, describing the Club as a shining example to other clubs within the lower divisions.
Mr Ikpoki reiterated his outfit’s desire to remain committed in supporting all efforts that bring people together in the name of soccer.
Abedi Pele commended MTN for sponsoring the competition, which has provided a platform for his team to rub shoulders with the top clubs and defeat them as well.
He appealed to MTN to support their campaign in the 2012 Orange CAF Confederation Cup since participating in the competition comes at a huge cost.
Abedi Pele expressed the conviction that with the support of MTN, they will be in a better position to compete amongst the big guns of African Club football.
Nania is the first Club from a second-tier to win the knockout competition since its inception in 1958.
