FA mourns former President

The Ghana Football Association has expressed its deepest condolence to the Asiamah family, as they mourn the passing of Major D.O. Asiamah, a former Chairman of the FA.

Major Asiamah, 74, died at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra on Wednesday after a protracted illness.

"We are saddened by the news but can only pray that the good Lord grants Major D.O. Asiamah eternal rest," an FA statement read.

"Each and every day, you worked hard and your wonderful efforts has contributed to the progress and successes we have chalked as an Association and a nation."

As the eighth President of the GFA, serving between 1977-1979, it was under his administration that the Black Stars lifted the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations.

In 2009, he was bestowed with an honour by the FA for his contribution to the development of the game and the sport body.
