The winner of the 2015 Ghana FA Cup will be financed by headline sponsor MTN and Ghana Football Association for Caf Confederations Cup campaign.
This is the first time the FA Cup champion will get such a huge support for a Caf interclub competition.
The measure is meant to help the clubs prepare adequately and make a meaningful impact on the African football scene, according to Kurt Okraku, vice president of MTN FA Cup.
“MTN, who are our title sponsors, and the Ghana Football Association will offer the winner of this year's competition with an amount of 50,000 Ghana Cedis ($12,300) to help their preparations for the Caf Confederation Cup,” Okraku told Goal.
“This is a great step and a good initiative as over the years we have seen clubs such as Nania FC, Inter Allies and others who qualified for the competition (Confederations Cup) but failed to participate because their resources were not enough,” he said.
Okraku also lauded the people of the western region where the quarterfinals draw was held on Tuesday for their support and revealed that various regional capitals will be considered for subsequent events of the competition as they seek to make it more accessible to the public.
“It has been great bringing the draw to Takoradi. The support has been overwhelming and we thank and appreciate the people in the western region for that. This will not be a nine-day wonder as we will consider other regional capitals for other activities also.
“We are urging more corporate bodies and companies to come and support us in terms of sponsoring our activities,” Okraku said.
