Ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah commences "Peace and Unity" tour

Former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, on Thursday, May 19, commenced "Peace and Unity" tour as part of activities towards the Vodafone Unity Match 2016, next month.

Appiah, also "Peace and Unity Ambassador" paid a visit to the Paramount Chief of Osu, His majesty Nii Majesty Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI, to invite him for the second leg game of the Vodafone Unity Match 2016, at the Accra Sports Stadium against the Black Stars.

The former Black Stars captain also used the opportunity to brief Nii Dowuona VI, on preparations towards the match and the international players expected to participate in the match.

The former Juventus midfielder said, "i thank you for the warm welcome and acceptance to help me promote peace and unity among Ghanaians before, during and after the elections.

"We have one nation and one people. We have no place to go, so we must all remain united before, during and after the elections.

“Football as we know unites us and as such it motivated my decision to promote peace before, during and after election 2016."

Nii Kinka Dowuona VI who alsi doubles as the President of Osu Traditional Council said, "I know through football we can educate all to understand that, it's just an election and not a war.

"Appiah, has our full support and we are ready to help anyway we can to help prevent the unwanted (war) and promote peace and unity. We should not be divided by our political colours and affiliations," he noted.

The tour, which is to promote peace and unity among Ghanaians before, during and after election 2016, as the nation gets ready to elect a President and Parliamentarians in the November polls, is to interact with key stakeholders and some traditional rulers.

Appiah, would lead a group of international footballers to play Kumasi Asante Kotoko on Wednesday, June 8, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and the Black Stars of Ghana on Saturday, June 11, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Among the international players coming for the match are; Sol Campbell, Edgar Davids, Dwight Yorke, Nwakwo Kanu, Austin Okocha, George Boateng, Jimmy Floyd Hesselbank and many more.

The Vodafone Unity Match 2016, would be sponsored by Vodafone Ghana, with support from uniBank, Azar Chemicals, NLA, ADIDAS, Ethiopian Airlines, Tang Palace Hotel, TT Brothers, Kristal Night Club and Special Mineral Water.
