South African coach Eric Tinkler has said he left his role as head coach of Asante Kotoko after receiving an offer from another club.

In a statement released on September 28, 2026, the Kumasi-based club announced that its Board of Directors had agreed to the coach’s request to be released from his contract.

It was indicated that the coach had extensive meetings with Kotoko’s Board of Directors in an attempt to convince him to reconsider his decision, but he remained determined to leave.

Speaking to the media, Tinkler explained that he made the decision earlier, even before the club’s defeat to Aduana FC, and that it was not linked to the team’s performance.

The South African gaffer indicated that he had to make the move to secure an offer he received from his home country, which he believes is the best of his career.

“I was given a good offer to go back to a club in South Africa, and that is the main reason why I made the decision to leave. My resignation had nothing to do with performance or the result [2-0 loss to Aduana]. I had already made the decision last week,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tinkler has been linked with Durban City as they search for a new head coach after parting ways with Tunisian tactician Khalil Ben Youssef, who spent just three months in charge and oversaw seven league matches, recording one win, four draws, and two defeats.
