Emmanuel Adebayor tips Egypt to qualify to World Cup ahead of Ghana

Togo’s National team captain Emmanuel Adebayor has tipped Egypt to qualify to the 2018 FIFA World Cup ahead of the Black Stars.

Ghana are currently five points behind Egypt in Group E of their World Cup qualifying group and face an uphill task in their quest to make their fourth consecutive appearance at the world stage.

A disappointing 0-0 draw with the Cranes of Uganda in Tamale coupled with a crashing 2-0 defeat to the Pharaoh’s in Alexandria back in November means the Stars will have to rely on luck and favour from other competing teams to make grounds. And former Arsenal and Manchester City forward Adebayor, who resides in Accra, believes Egypt’s early lead has put them in a comfortable lead.

“When it comes to football we have to mention Egypt and Cameroon. Egypt is leading its group,” he told ON Sport TV channel “They are closer this time than Ghana to qualify to the World Cup.”

“The Pharaohs squad includes a number of exceptional players like Mohamed Salah and Mahmoud Trezeguet along with other special players.”

The GFA pointed out earlier this month that new Black Stars Head Coach Kwesi Appiah would be tasked to qualify the team for the World cup, and he will be hoping to turn things around when the qualifiers resume in August.
