As part of the annual
Founder’s Day Celebration of Ghana’s first President, Dr Francis Kwame Nkrumah,
the people of Ellembele are to organized a series of event dubbed
‘Osagyefo Cup Events’ which is scheduled to be launched on Friday 26th August 2011
at Nkroful, his hometown in the Ellembele District of the Western
Region.
The
maiden annual edition is meant to honour the former president for his immense
contributions towards the development of sports, education and tourism in the
country.
The
theme for this year’s event is “Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the Dream Lives On”
The
date for the event is scheduled to take place from Monday 19th to
Wednesday, 21st, Sept, 2011, which would be the final day to climax the fiesta
with debar of chiefs and dignitaries. The venue shall be Nkroful Agricultural
Senior High School.
On
the sports arena, there would be an Inter-Schools soccer competition among the
eight senior high schools within the area made up of Nsein Senior High School,
Nkroful Agricultural Senior High School (the host), Bonzo Kaku Senior High
School, Annor Adjei Senior High School, Kikam Technical Institute, Half Assini
Senior High School, Esiama Secondary Technical School and Uthman Bun Affan
Senior High School (UBASH).
Other
activities to climax the event include an Inter- Districts Quiz competition for
the three Districts and an Open Day for all school kids at the Mausoleum of Dr.
Kwame Nkrumah at Nkroful. All activities shall seek to high the ideals of the
former first president of Ghana.
The
CEO of Nzema Events Management, promoters of the event, Mr. Osei Baffour, said
that this edition which shall be organized in partnership with the office of
the Ellembele Member of Parliament, Hon. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah will be centered
on three key disciplines ranging from sports, education and tourism.
The
event, he added will go the long way to unearth and promote talented
footballers who might be identified as well as bring together the people from
within and outside the area to celebrate Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, we want Nkroful to
become the hub for the Founder’s Day Celebration.
The
promoters added that ever since the Founder’s Day Celebration was made a
statutory holiday, there was not any special event to commemorate the Founder’s
Day Celebration, and called on all to support the initiative which will be an
annual event marked by the people of the area in a grand style.
The
launching ceremony shall be attended by the various personalities who are
responsible for the three sectors under which the events is going to be
promoted.

is meant to celebrate an icon that is seen as a true liberator of the Blacks
across the world. They encouraged all to support events of such manner in the
country.
