Eleven Wise register 33 players

Accra, Oct. 12, GNA - "Giants of the West", Sekondi Eleven Wise FC have registered 33 players for the 2009/2010 Glo Premier League. The list includes four goalkeepers, 10 defenders, 12 midfielders and seven attackers.

Charles Osei Asibey, Communications Manager of the Club told GNA Sports that the list of the playing body was submitted to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) before last Friday's, October 9 deadline. He said only 28 of the registered players will be available for the season with the remaining five demoted to the reserve side of the Club. Osei Asibey explained that the five players will remain with the reserves and will engage in curtain raisers before every home match to keep them in form.

This, he said, is geared towards building a strong reserve of talents as well as to avoid keeping large volumes of players, most of whom will rarely taste action throughout the season.

The Communications Manager said his outfit has mooted an idea of a youth team, which will feed the senior team with quality materials in the not too distant future.

Included in the list is former Black Satellites defender, Odartey Lawson, who is making a return to the local scene after stints in India. The shot stoppers include Theophilus Jackson, Kotei Blankson, Ken Ofori and Mohammed Alhassan.

The defenders are Eric Owusu, Stephen Aidoo, Adamu Mohammed, Osumanu Seidu, Farouk Dotse, Kwabena Okyere, Odartey Lawson, Nuru Deen, Emmanuel Eyison with former Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak midfielder Kweku Essien, Michael Ocansey, Abdul Bashiru, William Owusu, Paul Opoku, David Sarkodie, Baffour Kyei, James Bissue, Nana Amissah, Abdulai Zakaria and Theophilus Nyame making up the midfielders.

The attackers are Paa Joe Kuma, Samuel Ayew Yeboah, Prince Opoku, John Antwi, Emmanuel Ephraim, Issah Alhassan and Winfred Dormon.

The Giants of the West will open their campaign against Wa All Stars on Sunday, October 18 at the Essipong Stadium, near Sekondi.

Wise, one of the oldest existing clubs in the country rejoined the elite division last season after a 10-year hiatus in the lower ranks of Ghana football.
