The Ghana Rafting and Dragon Boat Association (GRDBA) hope to lead the crusade for the revival and empowerment of so-called lesser known sports when they launch the latest dragon boats as well as stage a 16-team championship this Saturday April 13, 2013 at Big Ada in the Grater Accra Region with lots of side attractions including races involving Members of Parliament and Ministers of State.
Dragon Boat racing is one of the fastest growing and most exciting water sports in the world governed by the International Dragon Boat Federation to which the GRBDA are affiliated. Saturday’s launch of the dragon boats and race involving 16 teams is under the theme: ‘Promoting lesser known sports.’
And it’s the quest to hunt more talents as well as popularize the sport and its potential of massive benefits to Ghana that takes centre stage in Ada under the patronage of Sports Minister, Hon. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and his immediate predecessor, Hon. Clement Humado who is now the Minister of Agriculture.
According to Morrison Olaf, Vice President of the Ghana Rafting and Dragon Boat Association, five Ministers in all have confirmed their presence at Saturday’s upcoming event in Ada with the MP for Bortianor, Hon. Bright Oduro already confirming that he will race.
“Yes Hon. Oduro, the MP for Bortianor has assured us that he will also engage in the boat race. Former MP for Ada and Education Minister, Hon. Alex Tettey-Enyo is also looking to compete despite his age. That is the beauty of dragon boat racing, the sport has no limit whatsoever,” Mr. Olaf told www.sportsinghana.com exclusively.
