Asante Kotoko’s assistant coach Michael Osei insists the Ghana U23 technical team cannot be blamed for the side’s poor showing at the 2015 All Africa Games.

The Black Meteors are on the verge of crashing out of the tournament following a 2-0 defeat suffered at the hands of Nigeria on Wednesday.

The team got away with their sluggish play in their opening Group B clash with Senegal where they picked up a point after a goalless draw.

But there was no hiding when they faced their West African rivals who had prepared extremely well for the tournament being staged in Congo, Brazzaville.

Ghana now Nigeria to beat Senegal massively in their final group game to stand any chance of progression.

The team has been widely criticized for their substandard performance but Kotoko’s assistant coach says the technical team are not to be blamed.

“There was no good preparation ahead of the tournament,” he said.

“The league was going on and off and the technical team had it very difficult assembling the players to camp. The technical team could not get enough time to train with the team.

“The general preparation was not good and I believe they will improve upon it next time around.

“There was not enough time to train as a team (before the tournament).”
