Don't assist rival supporters' union of B. Stars - NSU

Accra, Nov. 1, GNA - The National Supporters Union (NSU) is urging the Ministry of Education and Sports and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) not to assist any rival supporters unions of the Black Stars describing such groups as "only eager to go to Germany."

The NSU has observed that since the Black Stars qualified for their first-ever World Cup in Germany next year, a number of groups have emerged, most of whose modus operandi is not clearly defined. Mr Abraham Boakye, Chairman of NSU alleged to the GNA Sports on Tuesday that the rival bodies are using all means including cajoling top sports officials just for them to be recognised and identified with the Stars.

"Suddenly, everybody is organising funds raising, prayer sessions and the likes just to be assisted and given letters for visas to go to Germany", he said.

The National Chairman called on the ministry in particular to frown on the activities of such groups and if possible, urge them to channel their energies through the "only recognised NSU to support the Black Stars."

He said it would be unfair for any other group to be recognised aside the NSU after supporting (NSU) the Stars "through thick and thin." Mr Boakye called on Guinness Ghana Limited to make real its promise of sponsoring 100 supporters during matches involving the Stars. He said ever since the brewery company made the promise at a press conference in Accra a couple of months ago, the NSU was yet to receive a dime.
