Dominic Oduro called up to Ghana National Team?

Striker Dominic Oduro has been called up to the Ghana men's national team in preparation for next week's Friendly against Chile.

Coming off a career season 2011 in which he tallied 12 goals and was named the club’s Most Valuable Player, the speedy forward couldn’t contain his joy Thursday.

“It’s really exciting for me,” he said from Chicago Fire preseason camp in Charleston, SC.

“I think as a player its one of your dreams to play for your country. Being called upon is something I’ve been looking forward to for a long time and it really feels like one of my dreams coming true.”

The first summons of Oduro’s international career, the Fire’s 2011 leading goal scorer will join his Black Star teammates on Sunday in Philadelphia ahead of their friendly match Wednesday against Chile at PPL Park.

Oduro recognizes the opportunity to play for Ghana and will hope his chance in Philadelphia will lead to more call-ups, perhaps for when the team begins 2014 World Cup qualifying in June.

“I still have to work hard just to keep the calls coming. I don’t want this to be a one-time thing. I’m hoping I’ll go in and perform well and get called in for other upcoming games. I’m blessed to have this opportunity.”
