Disaster looms for Team Ghana, if -Nii Adote Din Barima

The leader of Ghana’s contingent to the Olympic Games, Nii Adote Din Barima (I) has warned that disaster looms if the necessary steps are not taken to deliver kits and ceremonial wear to Team Ghana on time.

This comes after Ghanaian boxers expressed worry about the unavailability of kits with less than ten days to the Games following a meeting in Cardiff over the weekend.

The boxers are yet to receive gloves, pants, and other training gear despite arriving at their base two weeks ago for final preparations. The boxers also explained that they need to be able to use the equipment early enough in order to adapt to it, well before the Games begin.

“It’s important that the kits are delivered to us in London as early as possible in order to avoid a disaster in waiting,” Nii Adote Din Barimah (I) said.

“When I met the boxers over the weekend, they complained about how they don’t have their kits for the Games whiles other countries have already begun using theirs,”

The ceremonial wear for Team Ghana is also yet to be delivered with just nine days to the Games despite the fact that the budget for Ghana’s participation was long submitted and approved by the relevant state agencies.

“I’m in touch with the Ministry who are responsible for procurement in this instance to discuss ways to get the kits to me in London. I spoke to Haramani (the kit supplier) yesterday about how best to get the kits to me.”

The news comes just days after US based Kit manufacturing company, Saucony, delivered a consignment of Kits to the Ghana Athletics Association to be used by the athletics team at the Games.

Ghana is being represented by three athletes, four boxers, a judoka and a weightlifter in London.

Meanwhile, www.liquidsportsghana.com has contacted some officials of the Ministry of Youth and Sports to get their reaction on the issue but they were yet to reply as at the time of going to press.
