The footballing skills of the members and staff of Ghana's Parliament will be showcased on Friday, July 5, 2024, when they face off against retired Black Stars players in a ceremonial match.

The game, serving as the curtain-raiser for the Democracy Cup between Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak, will feature the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, leading his team against a squad of retired Black Stars players captained by the legendary Stephen Appiah.

This match, part of the activities marking the 30th anniversary of Parliament, was announced by Alban Bagbin, who encouraged the Parliamentarians to fully engage in the series of events lined up for the anniversary and to prepare for the match.

Speaker Bagbin detailed the events planned for the anniversary, revealing that Parliament is collaborating with Primeval Consult to ensure a successful commemoration of the enactment of the 1992 constitution and the Parliament of the Fourth Republic.

"Due to the commendable efforts of this parliament, a few partners and stakeholders have decided to support our work and have proposed the establishment of what they call the Democracy Cup, which will enhance the celebration of our 30th anniversary of the 1992 constitution and this parliament of the Fourth Republic," said Bagbin.

"The inaugural event will take place on Friday, July 5, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium, featuring a match between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak."

Other activities planned to mark the anniversary include a lecture on the role of Parliament in Ghana's thriving democracy, mock parliamentary sittings, debates, peace walks, and fun games.
