David Accam is a threat - NY Red Bulls coach

David Accam David Accam

Despite recent reports linking David Accam to a possible move to England, the Red Bulls are keenly aware that the Chicago Fire striker is still capable of being a major headache for them this Sunday.

Accam reportedly has generated interested from English Championship clubs Norwich and Burton Albion, a move that would seem to fit the player’s tremendous upside.

In 35 Major League Soccer games dating back to last year, Accam has 14 goals and four assists, all for a Fire team that has been pretty bad during that stretch. Brutally bad to be honest.

If he was playing on a team with a decent midfield than Accam could well be a double-digit goal scorer this year. He lacks adequate service on a team that has been stuck in a rebuilding mode the past two seasons.

“I think Accam is one of the most dangerous players in the league if not the most dangerous player. We know that first hand because he’s punished us a bunch of times when we’ve played him,” Red Bulls head coach Jesse Marsch said following Thursday’s training.

“He’s very good, very fast when he’s in transition and still clever enough on the ball to put little plays together and finish things off. He’ll be a big focus for sure.”

On March 6, the Ghanaian international had a goal and an assist in his team’s 4-3 season opening loss against New York City FC.
