Leicester City's Ghanaian defender Daniel Amartey looks set to miss the remainder of the season after suffering a horror ankle break on Saturday.

The 23-year-old was stretchered off the field in the final minutes of the 1-1 draw against West Ham United, and has since undergone surgery.

Amartey has taken to Twitter to declare the operation a success and says he "will be back stronger", but the injury represents a major setback for him.

Amartey has established himself as a key member of the Leicester back-four, featuring in nine of the 10 Premier League games so far.

In addition to that, he has become an important player for the Black Stars, who need to win against Ethiopia in Addis Ababa next month to keep their hopes alive of reaching an eighth straight Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Meanwhile, Amartey only learnt of the tragic death of Leicester chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha after coming out of surgery.

"Came out of a successful surgery, but devastating news about the demise of our chairman," Amartey said on Instagram.

"A generous man, to whom @LCFC owes everything. I'm sure, you're in a much better place. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and the families of the victims affected by this tragedy."
