Ace sports journalist Dan Kwaku Yeboah has expressed absolute concurrence with the statement by the President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, to the effect that the Black Stars are bigger than the current crop of players.

Kwaku Yeboah believes that the players needed to be reminded of the greatness of the team, as most of them have not been playing to the level of their predecessors.

“I agreed with Kurt's statement that the Black Stars existed before the players and we've had quality players before them, so they should recognize the greatness of the team,” he said.

While Kwaku Yeboah agrees with Kurt Okraku’s statement, he believes his actions are contradictory to his words.

He argues that under Kurt Okraku's administration, the Black Stars have had a goalkeeper from the third tier of English football as their first choice.

“My issue is that this same administration brought in a goalkeeper in the third tier of English football who is almost 30 years old. If the keeper was 18 years old and the plan was to groom him for the future, I'd have understood, but Jojo Wollacott was brought in from the third division and made our number one goalie. How does this same person (Kurt Okraku) talk about standards? I have never seen something like that before,” he said on Peace FM.

Kwaku Yeboah was discussing Ghana’s draw with Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Thursday, October 10, 2024.

Ghana labored to pick up a point against the Sudanese, who spent much of the time in their own half, ostensibly hoping for a draw.

The result means that Ghana is yet to win a game in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, with Otto Addo’s side drawing two and losing one of the three matches played so far.

The return fixture will be played in Libya on October 14.
