Astute Football administrator Cudjoe Fianoo says the decision of the Ghana FA to grant autonomy status to the Ghana Premier League (GPL) is a step in the right direction.

According to him, the GPL going autonomous is in the supreme interest of the clubs that make up the league.

Fianoo who has vast experience in Ghana Football was part of a Ghanaian contingent that traveled to South Africa some 16 years ago to study the modalities of the Premier Soccer League which is all body independent of the South African Football Association.

The current GHALCA boss in an interview with Takoradi based Skyy Power FM, has shed light on how an autonomous Ghana Premier League will work out and noted that, clubs stand to benefit immensely from such an arrangement.

“It would be in the supreme interest of clubs for the league to go autonomous…There are nine National Teams, the FA can concentrate much on that”, Fianoo told the Skyy Sports Show.

“The autonomy of the premier league doesn’t mean we’ll wean ourselves off the FA completely. Referees appointment, disciplinary and arbitration issues will be with the FA as the regulator” he continued.
