Court withdraws contempt charges against GFA officials

Accra, Nov 28, GNA - An Accra High Court on Tuesday withdrew a contempt suit against some officials of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

The withdrawal follows the successful arbitration between the plaintiff, Emmanuel Otu Quaye and the GFA officials over the weekend by Nana Fitz Woode, former Chairman of Kumasi Cornerstone and a senior sports administrator.

Nana Fitz last week pleaded with the court for an out of court settlement of the case which was agreed by both parties. Ernest Thompson, counsel for the plaintiff appealed to the High Court, presided over by Justice Anthony Kofi Abada for the withdrawal of the contempt case against the officials of the GFA following the successful arbitration of the case over the weekend.

Justice Abada therefore accordingly decided to drop the contempt charges against the GFA officials made up of the President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, Fred Pappoe, Vice 96 President, Randy Abbey, Public Relations Officer and Kofi Nsiah, the General Secretary as well as Welbeck Abrah Appiah, Chairman of the Professional League Board (PLB) and Kweku Ampim Darko, the Deputy General Secretary.

After the hearing, Justice Abada held some lengthy discussions with the parties and advised both parties to be guided by the law so as to avoid similar occurance in the future.

It would be recalled that Emmanuel Otu Quaye, a staunch supporter of Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club filed a contempt suit against officials of the GFA for going ahead to sanction the fixtures of the seventh week matches of the Onetouch Premier League against the order of the Court.
