Court Case Threatens Division One League

? The League has been postponed

The Division One League Board has postponed the 2004-2005 Division One League scheduled to commence on Sunday 24th July, 2004 to enable the Board to settle knotty issues confronting the Association.

In an exclusive interview this morning the vice chairman of the Board, Kwame Ntow-Fiako told SPACE FM that the decision to postpone the league was based on the premise that Ghana Football Association (GFA) and for that matter the Upper West Regional Football Association needed to enter appearance and contest the case filed against GFA by Royal Ambassadors F/C of Tumu.

?Apart from the court case ,there are other important issues that need to be addressed before the commencement of the league?, he noted. He cited instances where Upper West Heroes had just informed the Association about the change of name of the club which the Board needed to amend its records. Again, Kwamax F/C has just been bought by new soccer investors under a new name Chelsea F/C, with the newly adopted home ground being Berekum. This is not the first time the Board has been compelled to postpone the league by court action. It suffered a similar fate a couple of years ago when Tudu Mighty Jets took the FA to court leading to a near cancellation of the league that year. It is not clear when the league will start but sources close to the collidors of the Board hinted that all the problems would be sorted in a week or two.
