Cosmos Buffalos aim to win 2013/13 Senior 15 S Rugby League

The president of the Ghana Rugby Association (GRA) Madam Annan – Myers has praised and congratulated ex- players of rugby who have formed clubs and become coaches of the teams playing in the Seniors 15 S League.

She said since Ghana started playing Rugby ten years ago, much has been gained.

She said the clubs have united to compete and this has developed into the Ghana Rugby Union.

One club, Cosmos Buffalos have dominated and won most times because they have a positive approach to the development and promotion of the game in Ghana.

Cosmos coach Amuzu who is also the national coach has urged the other clubs to train harder and play better to make the competition more interesting to attract more sponsors.

He however hinted that it would be very difficult for any club to beat them, because they keep on being disciplined and grooming new stars for rugby.

Coach Amuzu thanked Beaufort Properties Limited for supporting Rugby over the years.

Elvina, a representative of Beaufort Properties said her company wants to see Ghanaians fit and happy. She said many people have big interest in Rugby and wished other companies to come on board to support rugby.

Ruben Bannerman a player of Cosmos told yours truly they are the best and no club can challenge them because they have the best trainer and best players.

The Greater Accra Regional Sports Director the GRA for finding financial support in the private sector and promised that the government will certainly support associations who put in some efforts to attract sponsorship and are seen to be organised and working hard.

He praised the coaches in the Greater Accra Region who have made the region number one in the sport and other disciplines.

The league begins on December 14 at Cape Coast and continues on January 11 in Accra, then January 25 in Cape Coast before the finals in Legon, Accra on Febuary 8, 2014. The venues are Adisadel Park and University of Ghana, Legon Rugby Pitch.

At stake is a trophy and cash prize of 1000ghc for the winners, 500ghc for the runners up and 300ghc for the third placers. There would be prizes for best individual performers for best player etc.

Daniel Kenaz Mensah Secretary General of the Ghana Rugby Association said this year’s league would be competitive and more interesting because an awareness had been created and more people are getting to know the rules and regulations of the sport and since it started at the schools, most students know much about the dos and don’ts and are looking forward for more international matches abd exposure.

The teams vying for honours in Ghana Rugby are Cosmos Buffalos RC, Dansoman Hurricanes RC, Oguaaman Ocean Warriors RC, Legon Titans RC, Accra Sharks RC and Aggrey Oguaa RC from Cape Coast.

Others are Abora Bombers RC and Black Panthers RC as well as Idas Sports RC and Mfantsidisc RC of Cape Coast.
