A ceremony has been performed to mark the start of construction works on a multi-purpose sports complex and youth resource centre in Koforidua.

On completion, it would have a standard football pitch, tartan tracks, courts for table tennis, basketball, handball and volleyball, taekwondo and gymnastic hall.

There would also be an information and communication technology (ICT) centre, counselling and entrepreneurship centres, restaurant and sanitation facilities.

On hand, to perform the ceremony, was the Youth and Sports Minister, Mr. Isaac Asiamah.

The project is expected to be ready in November, this year.

The Minister said it was part of the drive to unearth sporting talents in the Eastern Region.

It would without doubt help to promote the lesser known sports and provide career guidance to the youth.

The counselling centre would assist the young people to make the right decisions about their future, while the entrepreneurship centre would provide them with skilled training.

Mr. Eric Kwakye Darfour, the Regional Minister, expressed optimism that the facility would give impetus to sports development in the region.

He called for the contractors to make sure that there was value for money. They should also work hard to complete the project on schedule.

Mr. Emmanuel Asigri, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Youth Authority , encouraged the youth to take advantage of the government’s youth programmes and interventions to better their lives.
