Complex for Ga District

THE Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, yesterday performed the ceremony for work to begin on a $350,000 multi-purpose sports complex being put up for the Ga District Assembly by the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC).

Vice-President Aliu Mahama cutting the sod The project, an intiative of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), forms part of its sports infrastructural development project under the special Olympa-Africa projects to improve upon the lives of people in deprived communities.

The sports complex to be housed on a 10-acre land, when completed, will have a football playing field, an athletic oval, fields and courts for other sports disciplines as well as a hostel, an auditorium, a clinic and a shopping mall.

In an address, Alhaji Mahama said much as it is the desire of the government to provide facilities and amenities that would improve upon the lives of the people, it is financially constrained and therefore welcomed the efforts by the IOC through the GOC for the initiative.

Mr Benson T. Baba, the President of the GOC, announced that Ghana will benefit from five similar projects when the Amasaman project is completed.

The Ga District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr S.A. Attoh, announced that ?50m had already been spent to prepare the ground for a smooth take-off of the project.
