Commey stops Mokwana in round 7

Richard Oblitey Commey improves to 21-0, 19 KOs after stopping South Africa's Thompson Mokwana in a first defence of his Commonwealth Lightweight title this evening.

The hard-hitting Ghanaian was dominant throughout and even floored Mokwana in the very first round, exhibiting all the skills which have made him so highly rated.

In the end the referee had no choice than to halt the fight in the seventh round to save the blushes of Mokwana at Emperors Palace, Kempton Park, Gauteng on the Golden Gloves Promotions bill headlined by the vacant IBO Light Heavyweight clash between Ryno Liebenberg and Tommy Oosthuizen.

UK based Commey who is currently rated number 12 Lightweight in the world by the IBF is likely to improve when the next ratings are released and could be in line for a potential world title eliminator when he next fights.

"Very impressive performance by Richie Commey. The boy just keeps on winning and has no problems traveling to other countries to get these wins. Proud of you mate," Eammon Molloy, one of Commey's biggest fans posted on Facebook few minutes after the fight.
