Some concerned Ghanaians have called on West Ham United forward Mohammed Kudus to make his voice heard regarding the recent protests against illegal mining activities, known locally as galamsey.
According to them, the destruction of water bodies by illegal mining activities should be condemned by high-profile personalities like Kudus.
They also mentioned that there have been instances where Black Stars players, both retired and active, have spoken out against national issues, which helped to curb them.
The comments were made on X, formerly known as Twitter, after Kudus scored for West Ham United in a 4-1 win over Ipswich Town in the English Premier League on October 5, 2024.
He headed in the ball after it bounced off the goal post, marking his first strike of the season, having previously struggled to find the back of the net.
Kudus has arrived in Ghana to prepare with the Black Stars team for a crucial tie against Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 10, 2024.
Meanwhile, the #StopGalamsey protest is a group of Ghanaians who are aggrieved by the destruction of water bodies by illegal mining activities, calling on the government to take action to resolve the issue.
The demonstration lasted for three days, from October 3 to 5, 2024.
Some protesters were arrested by the police and are awaiting a court hearing to determine their fate.

@WestHam a time will come your team may not get the likes of @KudusMohammedGH again from Ghana due to cyanide and mercury in our water bodies caused by illegal mining. Your team is benefiting from Ghana’s 🇬🇭 Human Resources @KudusMohammedGH , so please add your voice for us pic.twitter.com/J0gBFlZzKE
