One of the world's biggest beverage brands, Coca-Cola has come to the aid of the Ghana Beach Soccer Association in rehabilitating the damaged beach soccer arena.
The Coca-Cola breakthrough is a further boost to a sport that was introduced from scratch in Ghana in 2008. The green light comes just days after the director of Futsal at FIFA Mr Jaime Yarza responded to the SOS email from Beach Soccer Ghana.
The sponsorship is specifically meant for the reconstruction of the sand pitch and beach soccer arena boardings that were washed away following tidal waves last month.
Meanwhile, clearing and clean-up work has already commenced at the venue under the supervision of the land custodians LABOMA and the La Traditional Council. Additional support is also expected to come from the La Dade Kotopon Municipal Assembly.
The GBSA has confirmed that Coca-Cola had pledged to support the arena rehabilitation with GHS 15,000.
The amount does not cover the upcoming Ghana National Beach Soccer Championship slated for kick off in just a few weeks. The two Beach Soccer leagues were launched in 2011 thanks to Gh40,000 cedis from CAL Bank and Voltic Mineral Water.
In 2013, the national beach soccer team Black Sharks was also created and from a status of no ranking, Ghana has now risen to 19th in the FIFA World rankings (May 2015).
The President & Founder of Beach Soccer Ghana believes the sponsorship is just the beginning of a bigger and stronger relationship with Coca-Cola.
