Coach Opeele slams Princesses' coach, Sackey

Black Starlets’ assistant coach Isaac Opeele Boateng has rubbished the excuses of Black Princesses’ coach Robert Sackey that 10 months without receiving his salary does not give him the peace of mind to execute his job.

The national men’s U-17 deputy trainer has blasted the claim by Sackey that the lack of pay frustrated his work after the Princesses crashed out of the currently ongoing FIFA Women’s U-20 World Cup without scoring a single goal in 3 defeats.

“I have got a family to take care of. How am I supposed to survive and have peace of mind to work? How will you feel if at where you work you do not get paid for this long? This is a very bad practice and I do not know how anybody can expect positive results with this attitude.” That was what Sackey, reportedly on $3,000 a month salary, allegedly told the world’s media at the tournament in Japan.

But Opeele, one of several coaches appointed to various national team jobs at the end of last year by the Ghana Football Association who have also not received their pays over the same period as Sackey, has condemned the position of Sackey.

Opeele told 90 MINUTES: “He (Sackey) should apologise and keep quiet because many of us have not played any match for the past ten months to get even a bonus but he has received some bonuses. He should show appreciation and not to disgrace the Kwesi Nyantakyi led GFA administration and the Sports Ministry.”

He blasted: “When experts advised that the Princesses prepare for the tournament elsewhere, he took them to the US where they will use technology to assess and know every detail of your players. No wonder the US beat us 4-0.”
