"Clubs were privy to Glo deal" - Amoako

Accra, Sept. 3, GNA - An Executive Committee Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Amoako has dismissed reports that premiership clubs were not privy to the Globacom sponsorship of the Premier League.

The telecommunications giants entered into a five-year agreement with the GFA as headline sponsors for the elite division at three million US dollars each year, but the failure of the sponsors to fulfill the payment terms for the 2009/2010 season has led to wild revelations that the Clubs were left out in the discussions.

The GFA has yet to receive the remaining 1,500,000 US Dollars of last season's sponsorship, but Amoako says the phenomenon is no room to generate rumours that the Clubs had no say in the deal.

"There was a meeting between the Clubs and the GFA here (GFA Conference Room) where the details of the sponsorship package were announced.

"At the meeting, I challenged that the agency fee be reduced to 10-percent from the traditional 15-percent due to the quantum of the sponsorship amount. It is never true that the clubs were left out," he told a press briefing at the GFA Secretariat.

Amoako, who doubles as a Management member of Ashantigold FC has challenged every Club which was not privy to the deal to come clear.

Kwesi Nyantakyi, GFA President announced that Globacom has communicated their desire to settle the outstanding bills for the 2009/2010 season in three tranches.

"The first one was expected in August, second in January 2011 and the final in April 2011."

The GFA President, however, said the package for the 2010/2011 season is expected by December 2010 this year.

Meanwhile, the 2010/2010 Premier League commences on Sunday, September 5 at the approved centres.
