The enviable Yellow Jersey of the 2013 Cowbell National Cycling Tour changed hands at the Koforidua Stage on Wednesday June 5 when City Migro’s short energetic sprinter, Prosper Agbo took the Yellow Jersey from Young Stars’ Isaac Sackey.
Agbo used his experience in mountain climbing to better his time, but placed fifth at the end of the 92.i kilometers race. His team mate Francis Tetteh was fourth, with Stephen Kabu of H.M. taking the bronze medal.
Former National cycling champion, Henry Tetteh Djangmah got the silver medal, with super rider Samuel Anim grabbing the gold medal.
Samuel Anim was fantastic on a rainy day and helped the bunch of 60 cyclists to improve on their speed recording an average of 34.3 kilometers per hour from Koforidua to Adukrom and back to Koforidua Manfe.
16 year old Francis Awuku Akuffo retained his White Jersey as he seem to get no challenger for the Youngest by time.
Captain of Young Stars got the Blue Jersey, with Samuel Anim maintaining the best fighter and best by points Red and Green Jerserys respectively.
The race that ended at the Koforidua Jackson Park was witnessed by a large crowd who defied the rain to catch glimpses of the tough cyclists displaying logos of Cowbell, BIC and TV3.
After the race, the Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF) organized a dope test and urine samples of 20 cyclists were taken by Doctor Bill who said the test was to see if any of them had taken performance enhancing drugs.
The times recorded by the cyclists confirm that Ghana Cycling is developing and very soon the nation can compete internationally, and with the support of the media, Ghanaians can understand the sport better. As usual Wadada thrilled the spectators with good music and cycling fans were rewarded with Cowbell and BIC products.
