Ghana winger Christian Atsu says he is focused on achieving success with Newcastle United despite reports of exit from the club.

The former Chelsea player signed a five year deal with the magpies, but his future at the Saint James Park has come under scrutiny after reports linking him with a move to Huddersfield Town.

Atsu has been on form since returning from injury in the summer, playing very well in preseason and ahead of the game against Portuguese side Braga, Atsu stated his intentions of remaining at the club to achieve success.

“This season I will be more effective, score more goals and give more assists. This is what I believe. Honestly the fans will see a big difference from last season,” said the Ghana midfielder.

“We want to improve as a team and a squad. Last season we achieved a great position in 10th after promotion from the Championship."

“So this season if we want to do well we know we can’t go below 10th. We have to work hard and this season will be a big one for the fans.”

Atsu is hoping to get more pre-season minutes in the game with SC Braga.

“I was happy to play at Porto at my old club. The fans there are fantastic and Porto have a big history."

“Porto did have more possession and created more chances but we did a great job against them.”
