The Chief of Staff madam Akosua Frema Osei-Opare has endorsed the 2018 Women African Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place in Ghana from November 17 to December 5.

The Chief of Staff pledged her unflinching support to the team when the Local Organising Committee (LOC) paid a courtesy call on her ahead of the launch of the 2018 Women African Cup of Nations on March 23.

At a brief meeting on Monday, the chief of staff said she was pleased with the plans and preparations made towards the launch of Africa’s biggest women tournament.

She was unequivocal in praising the LOC’s efforts in improving and developing the condition of stadia across the country and its impressive strides in ensuring that Ghana stages a memorable tournament. She, therefore, assured that her office would renovate and adopt the Robert Mensah training center before the start of the tournament.

“Hosting this tournament is bringing Ghana to the limelight of the international sporting community. Lots of people will be watching us, so it is also an opportunity for us to show our best side.

“I just want to re-emphasize that the office of the President will also support the renovation of the Robert Mensah training pitch in Cape Coast,” the Chief of Staff said.

Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee for Women African Cup of Nations, Freda Akosua Prempeh, who led the delegation, updated the chief of staff on the committee’s preparations, highlighting their commitment to the growth of women football in the country.

‘‘We are working very hard to launch the tournament on March 23 at the Alisa Hotel. Preparations are far advanced. We are also working on the Mascot we’ve on the website, and we are working on the opening ceremony even though CAF has not come for their second inspection.

“We are very hopeful that definitely, we are going to host the tournament,” Freda Prempah told TV3 Sports.

The 2018 Women African Cup of Nations will be the 13th edition with the tournament also doubling as the African qualifiers to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
