Chelsea join race to sign Kwadwo Asamoah

English premier League side, Chelsea want to sign Kwadwo Asamoah on a free transfer when his Juventus contract runs out in the summer.

Antonio Conte brought the left back, now 29, to Turin back in 2012 and, after an inconsistent few seasons, he has developed into an important player this campaign.

Alex Sandro, who was close to moving to Stamford Bridge last summer, has been forced to compete with Asamoah for a place this term as his form took a slight dip.

However, the highly-rated Brazilian has told Juventus he wants to stay at the club for the long-term.

Napoli and Inter Milan are also interested in signing Asamoah, but he would prefer to play outside of Italy should he leave the Allianz Stadium.

There are still major question marks over Conte's future but, should he stay, he believes the former Udinese man could come in to compete for a place with Marcos Alonso.

Asamoah's current deal runs out in the summer, but Juventus are still hopeful he will sign an extension until 2021.

He joined from Udinese six years ago and big things were expected. However, after a bright start, injuries soon took their toll and he became a squad player.

This season, he has improved and it was his introduction which changed the course of the Champions League tie against Tottenham.

Galatasaray spoke to him in January and were close to agreeing a deal to sign him at the end of the season, but no final decision has been made.
