Chelsea and Inter Milan match led driver's mate to kill

Accra April 1, GNA - A 42- year- old driver's mate who stabbed a trader to death at Aplaku over a football match between Chelsea and Inter Milan, was on Thursday put before an Accra Circuit Court charged with murder.

Prince Nkrumah's plea was not taken and was remanded into prison custody to reappear on April 20.

Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Reindolf Agyeman told the court presided over by Mr D. E.K. Daketse that the complainant Louis Antwi is a drinking bar operator at New Aplaku.

Nkrumah also resides in the same vicinity. On March 16, this year, Nkrumah and the deceased, Alex Kufuor went to watch the UEFA Champion's League match between Chelsea Football Club of England and Inter Milan of Italy at new Aplaku. Prosecution said Chelsea lost the match.

The prosecutor said Nkrumah told Kufuor that Didier Drogba did not know how to play football and that resulted in a verbal exchange and a fight.

ASP Agyeman said Nkrumah and Kufour were separated and he (Nkrumah) left the scene to a near by drinking spot.

The deceased however followed Nkrumah to the drinking spot and they both engaged in an open fight.

Nkrumah who was holding a beer bottle hit the deceased in the head not satisfied Nkrumah broke the bottle and stabbed the deceased in his lower chest. Prosecution said the deceased who sustained injuries in his head and chest, fell unconscious and was rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital where he died on arrival. Prosecution said Nkrumah was therefore arrested and during interrogation, he admitted stabbing the deceased.
