Central University win Inter Private Universities Games

Oyibi (GAR), May 4, GNA - Central University College (CUC) were crowned champions of this year's Inter-Private Universities Games after they defeated African University College of Communication (AUCC) 4-2 on penalties at the University's sports grounds at Oyibi near Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region on Monday.

The champions were the first to make their intention of carrying the day known when they piled up pressure on their opponents, as they shot from all angles but failing to find the net for the opener. The tide gradually changed in favour of AUCC but they also messed up the numerous chances that came their way to score. On their way to the finals, CUC defeated Valley View University 4-3 on penalties while AUCC also accounted for Garden City University College, Kumasi 4-2 also on penalties.

African Regent University College of Technology won the volleyball event by beating Ghana Telecom University by two straight games. Mrs Anne Marie Amoah-Ahinful, Executive Secretary of the Conference of Heads of Private Universities, Ghana said the games were aimed at strengthening the already existing cordial relations among the institutions. She commended the participants for their show of sportsmanship and expressed the hope that they would improve upon their performances next year.

Mrs Amoah-Ahinful said many more events would be competed for net year and therefore called on corporate bodies and institutions to come to the aid of the universities to develop their sporting talents.
