The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is preparing to finalize the Black Stars’ backroom staff under new head coach Carlos Queiroz, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
This restructuring comes as Ghana aims to build on its recent World Cup qualification and make a stronger impact on football’s biggest stage.
Following Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup, the GFA has initiated a significant overhaul of the Black Stars’ technical team.
Otto Addo, the coach who led the team to qualification, was dismissed after disappointing performances in the March international window, where Ghana suffered defeats to Austria and Germany.
Additionally, Winfried Schäfer, the GFA’s former technical advisor, has also been let go as part of the broader restructuring to improve the Black Stars’ prospects at the World Cup.
Coach of the Black Stars, has requested additional backroom staff to support his efforts.
GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum confirmed in a recent interview with Asempa FM that the existing technical team—comprising John Paintsil, Desmond Ofei, Alain Ravera, Kim Lars Björkegren, Fatawu Dauda, Kris Perquy, Gregory De Grauwe, José Daniel Martínez Alfonso, Carlos Lozano Romero, Issah Amadou, and Abdul Rahman Alhassan—remains in place for now.
However, no final decision has been made regarding their future roles within the team.
Queiroz is expected to officially begin his work next month, ahead of Ghana’s international friendly matches against Mexico and Wales.
