Kumasi, Jan. 13, GNA – The University of Cape Coast (UCC) hauled a total of 22 gold, 14 silver and 14 bronze to emerge champions of the 22nd Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Games held in Kumasi.
For their prize they received medals, foam mattresses and souvenirs from Latex Foam Ghana Limited, sponsors of the event.
University of Ghana (UG) placed second with (17) gold, (26) silver and (19) bronze, while the University of Education-Winneba (UEW) came third with (15) gold, seven silver and nine bronze.
The host, KNUST failed to impress their home fans, managing to pick only (five) gold, (11) silver and (15) bronze, to place fourth. University for Development Studies (UDS) won (one) gold and (two) silver, to place fifth, with the Institute of Professional Studies (IPS), taking the sixth position, with (three) bronze.
The participants competed in soccer, badminton, tennis, volleyball, handball, basketball, athletics and hockey.
Professor Ernest Awanta, President of GUSA, commended the sports men and women for their good conduct and sportsmanship and sense of discipline and urged them to train harder for future competitions.
