Public Relations Officer of Sekondi Hasaacas Football Club Ben Quansah has confirmed to Class Sports that some acts of hooliganism were recorded before the club’s Premier League game against Ebusua Dwarfs at Cape Coast on Sunday, July 10.

There have been growing concerns in recent weeks over clashes among fans of local football clubs, especially in the Division One League, a situation which saw the headline sponsors of the league, GN Bank, threaten to withdraw their association with the competition.

“When we got there around 1:45 pm, our supporters started singing, but all of a sudden we saw some very tough-looking guys coming towards our fans and threatening to beat them up. They then started manhandling each and every one of us, and when the team captain asked why they were doing that, he was slapped by one of the heavily built men,” Mr Quansah told Hussein Hassan.

“We could not do anything, and when we reported to the police at the time, we were told there was not much they could do about it at that moment.”

Mr Quansah, however, revealed that officials of the club have decided to lodge a complaint with the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

“The decision is that we will report the incident to the GFA because they are the mother body of football in the country. Their decision is final,” he noted.

Hasaacas’ next Premier League game will be against Accra Hearts of Oak at the Essipong Stadium.
