Can the Porcupines survive in Dawu?

Team Asante Kotoko Team Asante Kotoko

Dreams FC face their biggest test in their maiden topflight campaign when they welcome giants Kumasi Asante Kotoko to the Theatre of Dreams, Dawu on Wednesday in the GPL week 8 top liners.

The home sides are having a great season having won four games, drawn two and lost one which sees them on 3rd position with 14 points. The Porcupine Warriors who started the ongoing campaign poorly are also back to life under caretaker coach Michael Osei having won their last two games in all competitions.

There have been no previous games between the two sides with the only connection between them being Abdul Baba Rahman whom Dreams FC sent on loan to Kotoko in the 2011/2012 season, when the latter was in Division Two.

Looking at Kotoko’s history and pedigree, one will be tempted to tag the game as a David and Goliath affair but the fantastic output of Dreams FC has made pundits to rewrite their notes ahead of the encounter.

Manager of Dreams FC, CK Akonnor is unlikely to make any changes to the side that beat Ashgold 1-0 in Obuasi.

The main point of attraction in the game will be on the flanks and it will be interesting to see how Kotoko’s Atta Kusi and Amos Frimpong will put the brakes on Dreams FC’s attacking machinery.

Further in the heart of defence, Manager C.K Akonnor’s men will have to be at their maximum best to stop Kotoko’s bulldozer Dauda Mohammed who has proven to be harmful on any good day.

One player who could as well decide the game will be Dreams FC midfielder Emmanuel Hayford who curled in a superb free kick in Obuasi to give his side all three points in their week 7 game.

Pressure certainly will be on Kumasi Asante Kotoko who are yet to win an away game this season and have looked far from convincing whilst Dreams FC who have nothing to lose could play at their own pace.

Traditionally, Kumasi Asante Kotoko have fought some exciting battles at Dawu with now defunct Dawu Youngsters stretching back to 1989 and Dreams FC who are now occupying the field will be no push overs.

The game promises lots of fireworks but Dreams FC have the urge considering their performance this season and also with home advantage.
