Calls for Nyantakyi’s resignation frivolous – Opeele

Former Asante Kotoko head coach Isaac Adade Boateng, a.k.a Opeele says he is not in support of those calling for the resignation of the president of the Ghana Football Association.

Opeele, on Asempa FM, said though it will be prudent for Nyantakyi to honourably resign his post, he will never side with those calling for his head.

“I simply can’t agree with those calling on Nyantakyi to go. Why must he go? We all know he was elected, so until someone credible shows up to contest him, I see no reason why he should go. I want to see a more or equally competent candidate ready to contest him (Nyantakyi) then I will throw my support behind such a fellow”, he said.

“I do not understand why Ghanaian sports fans don’t go after Prof Francis Doodo? He has done nothing for Ghana since he assumed office. He is always finding his way through issues. If Francis Doodo is still at post then those calling for Nyantakyi’s head must do same for Prof. Doodo,” he added.

“Until I see candidates like George Afriyie, Winfred Osei Kwaku Palmer and Kurt Okraku, I will not support the calls for Nyantakyi to resign”, he continued.

Many football fans and pundits are crusading for GFA head, Kwesi Nyantakyi to resign since claims are that he has achieved less for Ghana football since taking over the reigns twelve years ago.

They are of the view that he must resign for new minds to take over.

Nyantakyi during his tenure has seen Ghana participating in three World Cup tournaments, won the 2009 U20 tournament in Egypt.

But his critics say he has failed since he has not won a silverware at the senior level with the Black Stars.

Nyantakyi has also been criticised of corruption, an allegation his critics have found difficulty in proving with hardcore evidence.
