Hearts of Oak coach C.K. Akunnor won’t be distracted from the job he has to rekindle giants Hearst of Oak from the current slumber. CK took over only last week after the sacking of Serbian Vucicevic Nebojsa following a run of poor form but the first match for the former national team captain turned out to be a real baptism of fire.
“Yes of course, it’s a big blow, my first match and I’ve lost. But seriously I’m not looking at the Ieague table and I’ve already made it clear to management.
“There will be a lot of obstacles on the way but we are going to work very hard to get back to our best and play the kind of football that will make our fans happy,” Coach Akunnor stated on live TV just after his side fell 1-0 to Liberty Professionals in front of their own fans at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The loss meant Hearts have just fell from the top 2 into 4th place as Ashantigold and Aduana Stars moved in behind the runaway leading Asante Kotoko. CK is however adamant his side will soon right their wrongs.
He said: “The players lack confidence which is not good at all when you are playing for a big club like Hearts of Oak.
“Our fitness level was very poor but we will work on that. It’s a daunting task but we will not panic. I was aware and I took the job. It looks rough now but it will be well in the end and we’ll all be happy.”
