Former Asante Kotoko coach Karim Zito says the head coach of Asante Kotoko coach C.K Akunnor needs to strengthen his team ahead of the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors qualified to the group stages of the CAF Confederation by beating Coton Sports Garoua 5-3 on aggregate.

It’s been about eleven years now since Kotoko qualified to the group stages of the African campaign.

Talking to Isaac Worlanyo Wallace on Rainbow Sports, Zito opined that, Kwabena Akunnor needs to bolster his defence and the striking department of the team.

According to the under 17 Gaffer C.K Akunnor needs to strengthen his defensive midfield because the combination of play in midfield is not strong enough and this have allowed the defenders to play from the defence to the attack but since it was a knocked out stage it went well for the team.

In his view, "the buildup must start from the defence, someone who has the confidence to start the attack from the defence right to the midfield and to the attack, and it looks like the team is depending on Songne Yakouba for goals but injury is part of the game so he needs to get another striker to sharpen the attacking machinery of the team but the most important thing is C.K Akunnor must have plan B.’’

When asked if Asante Kotoko have a chance of winning the trophy he said, "we should not put pressure on the team, it’s been about eleven years now since they qualified to the group stages of the CAF Confederation cup but to me it feels like we have won the trophy, for now we should build ourselves to the African standard and when we get to the semi-finals or finals then we can talk about winning the trophy."
