Ex-Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan has called on all Ghanaians to offer their maximum support to CK Akonnor.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Pulse.com.gh, Gyan admitted he doesn’t know the Black Stars coach too well, but described him as a “good coach”.

CK Akonnor was appointed coach of the national team in January, replacing Kwasi Appiah at the helm after serving as the latter’s assistant for a short stint.

"CK [Akonnor] is a good coach. Although he coached the local teams here, I didn’t see him that much until the Black Stars played a friendly game against Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium,” Gyan told Pulse.com.gh.

“I saw his tactics, I saw how he arranged players, I saw his IQ, I saw something in him. After the game, I went to him and I told him he can be a very good coach. And lo and behold he is a coach of the national team.”

Gyan believes CK Akonnor will succeed as Black Stars coach and, therefore, called on all Ghanaians to support him.

“All we are asking from Ghanaians is to support him to achieve what he wants to achieve. We are all Ghanaians, he is also a Ghanaian. He is also there,” he rallied.

“I’m not saying he is the best coach but he is a good coach that I think if we give him the confidence and we give him what he wants, definitely I’m sure he is going to do well. Everything depends on how he is going to approach games, how he is going to do his tactics according to the players he has. For me accessing him from afar, he is a good coach.”

Gyan currently plies his trade at Indian Super League side NorthEast United but is yet to feature for the Black Stars since playing at AFCON 2019.
