CHAN: Ghana held by Libya

Ghana were held by Libya in their second group game at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) ongoing in South Africa.

The Local Black Stars took an early lead in the 6th minute through a brilliant and powerful header from Asante Kotoko’s Yahaya Mohammed, who eventually won the man-of-the-match award for his immense display on the field.

Both sides kept knocking for goals, especially the west Africans, but the Mediterranean Knights proved more resilient at the rear to thwart every effort at goal from their opponents.

The game went into the break with Ghana still in the lead.

When the match resumed it was a ding-dong affair but the north Africans stepped up their game a little and the Ghanaians had goalkeeper Stephen Adams to thank for some wonderful displays in the post.

A controversial decision by the referee gifted the Libyans a penalty. Fasail Saleh stepped up to equalise from the spot in the 73rd minute for the Libyans who managed to keep the scoreline level until the end of proceedings.

Both sides won their opening game and the draw gives them four points each but Libya sit at the summit of Group C with a superior goal difference.

Ghana’s next game is against Ethiopia as Libya face Congo Brazaville. The other group opponents have no points.
