The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has debunked rumors that Senegal has filed an appeal and that proceedings are set to begin concerning the 2025 AFCON ruling from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The court clarified that the Senegal Football Federation has not taken steps to appeal the ruling yet, despite previously pledging to do so in their bid to overturn the verdict.
CAS indicated that it will make an official announcement to the public once an appeal is received, given the magnitude of the case.
CAF declares Morocco 2025 AFCON champions
“At the time of writing, CAS has not received an appeal from the Senegal Football Federation concerning the Africa Cup of Nations. Given the high-profile nature of this matter, we plan to issue a press release if and when it is filed,” the court stated in response to a mail inquiry by sports journalist Muftawu Nabila Abdulai.
This comes after the CAF Appeal Board ruled that Senegal breached Article 84 of the regulations, which prohibits staging a walk-off. As a result, Senegal were deemed to have forfeited the game, and the final result was nullified.
Applying the regulation, Morocco were declared champions with a 3-0 scoreline against Senegal as punishment for the temporary walk-off.
The ruling was met with backlash from coaches, ex-players, and pundits, who argued that the decision was flawed and the regulation misapplied, accusing CAF of disgracing African football.
