CAN 2012 The Referees, Black Stars, And GFA

Judging from the comments Ghanaians who have been watching Can 2012 with me, and folks I talked in Ghana, most of them are disgusted at the officiating at the Black Stars’ games. I ask myself whether my observations are prejudiced because I am a Ghanaian.

When you watch how a player stuck his boots on the chest of Andre Ayew, during the Ghana-Tunisia match, you wonder how biased you could be accused of. The officiating of the Ghana and Guinea match was appalling. A defender blatantly pushed down Asamoah Gyan in the penalty box and the referee just waved his hands off. This poor officiating against us has pervaded through a lot of football competitions whether in Africa or worldwide.

How much do Ghanaians have to take before we get angry?

I am wondering if the GFA has ever protested to the CAF or FIFA. Have they ever had the will to show the African Football Federation the tapes on these matches? And if they have done so what has CAF done? The performances of these referees are atrocious. What are we? Door mats? I am not holding brief for the Black Stars’ performance. We could do better. The Black Stars’ performance does not mitigate the officiating. It is about time we stop getting bad haircuts.
