CAN 2008 Judgment Debt Saga (Part 2)

What
Akufo-Addo, Osafo Marfo Told Kufour In Akosombo

By: Winson V.A.
Addotey

The controversies
surrounding the African Cup of Nations (CAN) 2008 judgment debt, which was a
huge financial loss to Ghana by former President Kufour and his henchmen, appears
to be endless as there are more startling revelations unveiling.
Credible reports reaching the Crystal
Clear Lens have it that Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, the torchbearer
of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Mr. Osafo Marfo, former
Education and Sports Minister are burning with anger against Mr. Kufour because
he (Kufour) snubbed them when they advised him against his decision to
arbitrarily abrogate the Alfred Agbesi Woyome contract during one of their
cabinet meetings at Akosombo in the Eastern Region.
The
reports at our disposal from deep throat sources within the NPP is that Akufo-Addo
and Mr. Osafo Marfo, who understood
the implications of aborting the contract to Mr Woyome told Mr. Kufour not to
carry out his intention of breaking a statue law by denying Woyome the contract
but he called a bluff of them.
It
would be recalled that Consular Woyome has been paid GH¢58 million as judgment
debt by the order of the High Court of Justice in Accra in relation to the unfair
abrogation of his contract to the rehabilitation and construction of the four
stadia ahead of the CAN 2008.
The
Court, Commercial Division, which was presided over Justice I. O. Tanko Amadu, ruled
that it was unlawful for the state to abrogate a contract, which Consular
Woyome’ company had rightfully bided and won, and rather awarded it to a
Chinese company that did not bid for it; therefore the state ought to pay him
the amount in question.
But,
the ruling has run into serious political controversies, especially due to the amount
involved. So far, sections of the public have called for the head of Ex-President
Kufour and his cohorts who deliberately snubed a law under which Mr. Woyome was
awarded the contract.
Already,
a legal luminary, Chris A-Ackumme, has sued in Court the trio, Kufour, Kwodwo
Mipani, for Chief of Staff; Dr. Kofi Amoah, former Chairman of the Local
Organising Committee for CAN 2008, for causing financial loss to the state. His
reason is that the court should declare the trio solely responsible for the
loss to the state.
However,
the President, John Evans Atta Mills, has directed the Economic Organised Crime
Office (EOCO) to investigate wider the circumstances leading to the loss of
huge money to the state. He also ordered the EOCO to make public all beneficiaries
of the judgment debts since his administration came into office.
From
all indications, the issue did go down well with some of the top shots in the
NPP, particularly the Akufo-Addo and Osafo Marfo, who earlier angrily warned
Kufour against the move.
According
to our sources, Mr. Osafo Marfo, who was the sector Minister at that time did
kicked against Kufour’s action vehemently, but his boss (Kufour) did not budge.
But, he has pressed his wiliness to cooperate with the EOCO to free himself
from the any legal prosecution thereof.
Unfortunately,
there are documents that indicate that the former Minister, who was also the
Minister for Finance and Economic Planning, may be implicated in the whole
transaction.
On
the other hand, Akufo-Addo is traumatized and trembling by the whole matter
considering the fact that he foresaw long ago the trouble and advised his archrival,
Kufour, to drop the decision.
Read
in our next edition the decision Akufo-Addo has taken now against Kufour to forestall
further problems.

Who Is Martin Amidu Pleasing In Gov’t?
Who Is Deceiving Him With Vice
Presidential Slot?
This Man Deserves A Sack Immediately

Ghanaians,
particularly the ranks and file of the ruling National Democratic Congress
(NDC) are disappointed in Hon Martin Amidu, the Attorney-General and Minister
for Justice for happily choosing the path of darkness instead of light that
gives hopes and aspirations.
It
is undeniable fact that the NDC represents light because it is sensitive to the
needs of
humanity, whilst the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) represents nothing
but the dark and demonic forces of evil, hence their unsatiable quest for power
through blood shed.
It
is against these backdrops that any individual or a group of individuals who
associate with the NPP by way of agreement to assist each other is definitely
not different from the common characteristics the NPP bears.
We
are aware there are people in the NDC, who inter alia, claiming they are the
kingmakers of the party now, who have entered into evil agreements with the
criminals in the NPP that in the unlikely event that the NPP wins the next
elections they should not, be prosecuted.
This
is a factor among other factors that despite the looting and thievery that
Ghanaians have witnessed under NPP 8 years administration, no single person has
been jailed.
To
buttress this point, it took courage and tenacity of purpose to sue former
President Kufour and his men, because there were powerful forces, which kicked
against the move. They felt the decision would jeopardize their commitments
with the criminals in the NPP.
The
Ga lands the NPP have stolen; the Ghana@50 probe, the Ya-Na killings, the Issah
Mobilla killing, the missing 77 parcels of cocaine, the cocaine turning into
‘kokonte’ power at the Police Headquarters and many other crimes these bandits
have committed to against our dear nation Ghana.
At
the early stage, many of us were of the view that Hon Betty Mould-Iddrisu was
whelmed by the huge criminal cases she had to handle and the high profile
personalities involved; therefore we needed a more experienced brain, Hon
Amidu, to handle the cases.
A
lot of Ghanaians including some of us did lobbied and clamoured for Mr. Amidu
in that he had worked in the A-G Department as State Attorney for a very long
time and he had had in-depth knowledge about the nitty-gritty of the
place.
Little
did we know that he will be a disaster and embarrassment to us all.
Instead of the A-G committing his energy to the works President Mills
has assigned him, he chose to please some selfish and greedy people in the
party.
Who is promising Hon Amidu a
presidential candidate in the party?
We have stumbled upon some
ridiculous memo purported to be issued by the AG instructing some people to
seek for information elsewhere rather than his place.
How on earth should he involve civil
servants in our party affairs when some of these guys are agents of the NPP? It
is not surprising that the memo he has written almost everyone at the A-G
Department has it.
It will be a political suicidal to allow Mr. Amidu to stay.
